The celebration of Pentecost was originally a Jewish Festival in Jerusalem fifty days after the Passover which celebrated the wheat harvest. Today is the day that the
Christians Church remembers its birthday, so to speak, the day of Pentecost, is 40 days after Jesus rose from the dead and ten days after He ascended into heaven. The Christian Church took off with a special outpouring of the Holy
Spirit. At Jesus’
ascension, He reaffirmed His promise that He
would send the gift of the Holy Spirit. When the disciples received the gift, they were to begin their mission as His witnesses, from Jerusalem to all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.
This must have been an awesome church service there were 120 in attendance all waiting on the promise, not knowing exactly what it was, yet the bible says they were all on one accord. As they waiting not being in a hurry, for they were there ten days; and all of a sudden the sound of a mighty rushing win, and tongues of fire fell on each one of them and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Fire why fire in the Old Testament fire represented God being in their presence this was not an everyday occurrence and it got the attention of all the people who was there.
Pentecost is a reversal of history there was another time in history where there had been a great confusion of languages a confusion that leads to a great scattering through-out the world. This was at the tower of Babel where they all spoke one language.
What does Pentecost means? Pentecost is the gift of God’s Spirit which indicates that something new has begun, for the bible says: “Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old thins have pass away, behold al thing has become new. (2Corinthians 5: 17) It means that time for us as Christians who have received the gift we are changed, we are new. What does Pentecost mean it mean that God is at work equipping people to communicate the good news about Him. Pentecost is us becoming Christ in the world. It is God giving us the ability to communicate the language of the good news so that we all may understand one another. That we may hear the good news in just the way we need to hear it. Just like God communicate to each one of us today we hear the gospel in our own language, in our own image, with our own ears.
Pentecost is the birth of the Church, it is God among us in power making us more than conquerors, making us unafraid, empowered, bearing the cross out of love, and being raised from the grave in glory. Pentecost means those who are in Christ have move from life to death, that they will never be separated from the love of God which are in Christ Jesus. Pentecost mean boldness to speak those thing that be not as though they are, it means a new attitude, a new way of thinking, a new mind set, for the scripture says: “ I beseech you brothers by the mercy of God that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service; and be not confirm to this world but be transform by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is that acceptable and prefect will of God. (Romans 12: 1-2) Pentecost means being drunk with the new wine, being drunk in the spirit gives us the boldness the wonderful words of life, being drunk in the spirit will help us be free to work in the service of the Lord. Pentecost means we have drank of the new wine and we are uninhabitable, we are not afraid, because we are drunk in the spirit.
